How Zuko Works
Technical and Commercial Overview
Zuko is a specialised form analytics platform designed to help product, UX and optimization teams understand how users interact with online forms and checkouts. Rather than tracking only page views, Zuko captures detailed interaction behaviour at the field level to reveal where users hesitate, return and abandon - enabling targeted optimisation and improved conversions.
1. Installing the Zuko Tracking Script
At its core, Zuko works by adding a lightweight JavaScript tracking tag to your website.
- You deploy Zuko’s JavaScript library on pages containing your forms - either directly in your codebase or via a tag manager.
- The script listens for a set of standard user interaction events (e.g., focus, change, input, click) on form fields.
- This enables Zuko to build a rich event stream reflecting real visitor behaviour as they view and interact with form elements.
The tracking script itself is small (around ~6 KB transferred) and served from a globally available CDN (AWS) to ensure minimal impact on page load and performance.
2. What Happens During Tracking
Once the tracking code is present:
- Visitor loads a form page - Zuko begins tracking activity.
- Interaction events fire - every time a visitor interacts with fields (typing, focusing, pasting, clicking), the script captures these interactions.
- Events are sent in the background - data is transmitted asynchronously to Zuko’s servers, with no perceptible delay for the user.
- Sessions are built - events are grouped into sessions representing a user’s journey from viewing the form until completion or abandonment.
- Zuko then derives metrics such as field abandonment rates, field return counts, dwell time, and behavioural patterns that highlight UX friction points.
Zuko does not capture or store the actual form content users enter. It tracks behavioural signals rather than form data itself.
3. How Data Is Sent and Processed
- Interaction events are sent from the browser to Zuko’s backend using secure, asynchronous calls (XHR/fetch).
- Because the script only transmits behavioural metadata and never personal or sensitive input values, it adheres to privacy best practices and keeps user data secure.
- Once received, Zuko’s backend aggregates events into meaningful metrics that are surfaced in the dashboard, API or reports.
This design ensures:
- Low overhead for your site - minimal bandwidth and client processing.
- Fast, real-time insights - your team can watch metrics update without manual setup for each field.
- Consistent tracking across simple and complex form structures, including multi-step flows and dynamic elements.
4. Data Security and Privacy
Zuko is architected with privacy and security in mind:
- No personally identifiable information (PII) is collected or stored — the platform tracks behaviour signals, not form values.
- Zuko uses first-party cookies (zukoVisitorId) to help associate events with visitor sessions; third-party cookies are not used.
- All analytics data is hosted within the European Economic Area (EEA) on AWS infrastructure, benefiting from strong regional privacy protections.
- The tracking code and platform access are protected and controlled — access to the tracking script repository and deployment environments is strictly limited and audited.
This architecture supports compliance with regulations such as GDPR and ensures that Zuko can be used safely even in privacy-sensitive industries.
5. Scalability and Reliability
Zuko’s backend is built on scalable cloud infrastructure (AWS) designed to handle high volumes of interaction data.
- Using a CDN to host the tracking script ensures fast delivery globally and reduces latency.
- The asynchronous data transmission model protects performance - the user experience on your site remains fast, even at high traffic levels.
- Zuko’s session modelling and event aggregation systems scale with usage, enabling organisations to track thousands to millions of form sessions per month without manual performance tuning.
For enterprise customers, Zuko also offers API access and session data export options, supporting integration with internal data systems, dashboards and advanced analytics workflows.
6. What You Get in the Dashboard
From the aggregated behavioural event streams, Zuko provides:
- Form-level metrics (starts, completions, abandonments).
- Field-level insights (where users struggle, return or hesitate).
- Funnel and behaviour flow views.
- Segment comparisons based on traffic source, device or custom attributes.
- Alerts on unusual form behaviour patterns.
This rich data surface lets teams diagnose friction without manual tagging or heavy implementation effort, even on complex forms.

Pricing & Commercial Model
Zuko is designed to be technically powerful and commercially predictable. Our pricing reflects the way the platform operates: transparent, scalable and aligned with your usage with no unexpected billing surprises.
Usage-Based Plans
Zuko plans are typically based on the volume of form sessions tracked per month. This ensures that pricing scales in line with the value you receive from the platform.
You select your usage tier in advance, and that forms the basis of your subscription.
No Automatic Overage Charges
Unlike some analytics platforms, Zuko does not apply automatic overage penalties if your usage exceeds your agreed limit.
If your tracked volume approaches or exceeds your current plan, you’ll be notified and given the opportunity to upgrade from your current tier. Nothing changes automatically, and if you hit your limit the tracking will simply stop - there will be no unexpected charges on your invoice.
This approach ensures:
- Predictable monthly billing
- No surprise invoices
- Clear communication before any pricing adjustments
Scalable for Growing Organisations
Because Zuko runs on scalable cloud infrastructure, it can support organisations ranging from small teams to enterprise-level traffic volumes.
As your business grows, your Zuko plan can scale accordingly while maintaining the same performance, data security and reliability standards described above.
Enterprise & Custom Plans
For high-volume, multi-domain or compliance-sensitive environments, Zuko offers tailored enterprise agreements. These may include:
- Higher session limits
- Dedicated support
- API access
- Data export options
Our goal is to ensure pricing aligns with operational requirements without locking customers into rigid or punitive usage structures.
